The origins of the Château Jean Faure date back to the end of the 18th century. It is located in the village of Saint-Émilion with a surface area of 18 hectares. The Château experienced major management difficulties from the 1970s, which led it to being excluded from the Saint-Émilion classification in 1985. Olivier Decelle signalled the renewal of the estate in 2004, the year in which he in fact bought it. With energy and dynamism, he then undertook a complete renovation of the vineyard and constructed a new, more modern cellar. Vine cultivation has changed and the whole team is adopting more natural methods that respect the environment. Horses, for example, are favoured over tractors to work the vines. The Château Jean Faure blend is rather atypical: Cabernet Franc is the dominant grape, unlike many Saint-Émilion estates where Merlot is king. The position of the Château, close to Château Cheval Blanc and Château Figeac, may explain it since these two properties share a similar encepagement. This feature gives the Château's wines a real smoothness, pulpy fruits and remarkable softness.
