Château Valandraud

  • Bordeaux

Domain

In 1989, Jean-Luc Thuvenin and his wife Murielle Andraud bought a small parcel of 0,6 hectares in the valley of Saint-Emilion, between Château Pavie-Macquin and La Clotte. The name comes from the word Val and Andraud for its wife’s name. They create in 1991 their first vintage with poor means but a great passion for the product: they work with pick, cut, plowed and look for the optimal maturity for the grapes by collecting grape by grape. Almost 2000 bottles are sold for around 10€ each. Robert Parker’s notes will overcome the one for Ausone and Cheval Banc in 1995. Considering success year after year, they decided to purchase new parcels and estates. The vineyard became classified in 2012 and is now extended to 10 hectares on different parcels with clay-limestone and sillico-gravelly soil. The wines receive numerous acclaims from the international press: complexity, harmony, intensity, depth, delicacy and softness.
