Domain

The Niepoort family has been creating Port wines in the Douro region since 1842. Today, this domain where 5 generations have succeeded each other, is considered to be one of the best in the country when it comes to Port production. The current generation started a new era when Dirk Niepoort created the first Redoma Tinto in 1991. Niepoort also owns two other properties in the Dão and Bairrada region, forming a sort of triangle. In 2018, Niepoort was awarded the Guinness World Record title for the most expensive Port wine sold at an auction. This Port was from Niepoort’s first generation, produced by the Dutchman Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort in 1863. Niepoort uses biodynamic principles in the vineyard. Their exceptional wines come from this respect for the terroir and the family’s know-how. The family’s talent does not only extend to the red wines, but also to the whites and rosés. Wine Spectator magazine compares Niepoort’s role for Port wines to that of Krug’s role for Champagne.
