Ridge Vineyard’s history started in 1885 when Dr. Osea Perrone purchased nearly 70 hectares near the top of Monte Bello Ridge. He planted vines and founded the Monte Bello Winery, producing its very first vintage in 1892. In the 1940s, theologian William Short purchased the property along with the vineyard. It was later purchased by four engineers from the Stanford Research Institute in 1959. The domain uses organic agriculture. Today, Ridge Vineyards is one of the largest producers of certified organic grapes in Sonoma and the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation. Since 1962, Ridge Vineyards has been producing exceptional Chardonnay. They are also well known for their wine called Monte Bello. Often called the American premier cru, it is the best example of a classic Bordeaux blend where Cabernet Sauvignon predominates. Vintage after vintage, Monte Bello proves to be an exceptional and complex wine with a remarkable balance.
