Domain

The story of Domaine Henri Bourgeois starts in the Chavignol village. Mr Henri Bourgeois used to grow vegetables. He then took a pioneer decision to plant vineyards in the few hectares he owned on the Monts Damnés hills that contain Kimmeridgian marls. This specific soil gave a strong identity to the wines and make them soon famous. Henri Bourgeois took innovative choices by defining strongly his wines identity and terroirs and choose wood to mature and vinify his wines. Since then and thanks to his location close to Paris Henri Bourgeois’ wines start to be famous in Parisian restaurants. Export is developing and the Domaine Henri Bourgeois became a Sancerre reference. 1984 is an important year with the very first silex wine vinified in new barrels. Rémi and Jean-Marie sons of Henri kept enlarging the vineyard by purchasing the most beautiful parcels. Today the new generation manages the estate in a perfect continuity. Arnaud, Lionel, and Jean-Christophe Bourgeois are just as much the heirs of those men as the initiators of the future of the vines and wines of the house. Thanks to the success of their wines, they built in Chavignol a modern cellar an open vinery in the old building and a bed and breakfast. Every day, the same values drive them: passion, spurred on by effort and perfectionism, for giving life to wine; a calling to express all the aspects of Sancerre, its identities born of terroirs rich in their variety; a celebration of the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir varietals.
