Stag's Leap Wine Cellar

  • Californie

Domain

Stags Leap ‘s name origin comes from the legend of the stag escaping from the hunters jumping above the vineyards. Founded in 1970, the 44 hectares was one of the first vineyard planted in Cabernet Sauvignon. The year 1976 was a turning point for the estate: Stags Leap wine is recognized as the best Cabernet Sauvignon in the Paris judgement that evaluates the best French and American wines and which will stamp the time. This ranking gave a huge notoriety to the wines. In 1996 Stags Leap Wine started the excavation of galleries to host their cellar. They were magnified by a spectacular entry arch designed by the Spanish architect Javier Barba. With more than 3 000 m2 of tunnels and about 100 Foucault pendula hang on the cellar ceiling, the Stags Leap cellars symbolize the passing time and its impact on the wine ageing. Since 2004 the cellars are open to the public in order to share the passion for wine with the world. The estate philosophy about wine is focused on alliance between beauty, balance and complexity. The wines combine strength and softness from the Nappa Valley wines often seen as made with “an iron hand in a velvet glove”. Stags Leap is one the most recognized American wines and with great honor!
