Domain

With its 58 hectares, the Château Fombrauge is the biggest Grand Cru Classé of St-Emilion! The origins of the vineyard dates back from 16th century. Its name comes from “Fons Brogiera” that means “source surrounded by heather and bushes”. These sources are today in the heart of the vineyard. The estate was owned by different families before being classified as National Asset during the French Revolution. The descendants succeeded in defending their rights in 1808 and in getting back the Château. In 1867 Château Fombrauge receives the gold medal for the Universal Exhibition. From the Canolle family in the 15th century to Bernard Magrez, six families have been at the head of the Château. This continuity has therefore brought an incomparable stability and a unique pioneer soul. Since 1999, Bernard Magrez a worked the vineyard and receive as a reward to be listed in the St-Emilion Classification in 2012. The estate is a part of this very restricted club among 64 other Châteaux.
