Domain

The story of Marchesi di Barolo begins in the heart of the Barolo village in the Langhe region. 200 years ago a wine named Barolo was produced and grown in Falleti family cellars in the village. The son who was the Marquis of Barolo Carlo Trancredi Falleti married in 1807 a French girl named Juliette Colbert de Maulévrier. She was particularly interested into the wine and discovered the grape variety Nebbiolo was perfectly fit for the terroir and a long ageing in wood. When she died, the building including the familial wine cellar became the Barolo Opera. The story of this family was closely linked to the Abbona family destiny who owned its own wine cellars next to the Marquis Falleti one. The family and especially Pietro Abbona succeed to acquire the Barolo cellars and took over the fabulous legacy left by the Falleti Marquise. Today the estate is still in Abbona family hands that keep this passion for the terroir to produce high quality wines and continue to build the Marchesi di Barolo story.
