Second Grand Cru Classé and part of the Margaux appellation, Château Durfort-Vivens was founded in the 14th century by the Durfort de Duras family and remained in the family until the 19th century. The second part of the name comes from the Viscount de Vivens, who led the estate to its apogee in the 1950s. In 1961, Lucien Lurton acquired the Château. Today, his son Gonzague is at the helm of the 55-hectare vineyard. Under his leadership, Château Durfort-Vivens achieved organic and biodynamic (DEMETER) certification in 2016, demonstrating a deep commitment to the environment. The estate goes beyond traditional biodynamic practices by integrating agroecological techniques such as hedges, ecological corridors, grassing and specific plant cover. In addition, he uses precision viticulture based on the study of soils and their microbiology, as well as intra-parcel sowing. 30% of Château Durfort-Vivens is aged in amphorae, in the world's largest amphora cellar, with 160 amphorae. This method brings out the purity of the fruit. Gonzague Lurton makes every effort to express the quality and typicity of the wine, constantly striving for a perfect balance between vine and terroir.
