The 2014 vintage in Bordeaux is often seen as a return to tradition after several years marked by atypical weather conditions. This year produced Bordeaux wines of great finesse and remarkable complexity, perfect for cellaring but also ready to be enjoyed now.  

Climatic conditions of the 2014 vintage in Bordeaux 

The 2014 vintage benefited from almost ideal weather conditions in Bordeaux, enabling winemakers to produce wines of exceptional quality.  

• A difficult start to the season: the year began with a mild winter followed by a wet spring, giving rise to concerns about vine development. Flowering, although relatively even, was slightly disrupted by rainfall. 

• A dry, sunny summer: July and August brought warmth and sunshine, essential for the development of the grapes. This period enabled the vines to make up for lost time at the start of the season. The cool summer nights helped preserve the aromas and acidity in the grapes, essential for producing well-balanced Bordeaux wines. 

• An exceptional autumn: September and October were marked by dry, sunny weather, providing perfect conditions for ripening the grapes. This allowed harvesting to take place under optimum conditions, as the winemakers were able to wait for the ideal moment to pick each plot. 

Bordeaux 2014 wine characteristics

The wines of the 2014 Bordeaux vintage stand out for their balanced structure, silky tannins and great aromatic finesse.  

• Reds: Bordeaux 2014 red wines are particularly appreciated for their balance and complexity. They present intense aromas of black fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant, often accompanied by spicy, cedary and tobacco notes. Tannins are present but fine, offering good structure and interesting ageing potential.  

• Whites: Bordeaux 2014 dry white wines are characterized by their freshness and liveliness. They present aromas of tropical fruit, citrus and white flowers, with a beautiful minerality. These white wines are ideal for drinking young, but can also evolve favorably with a few years' aging. 

• Sauternes: Sauternes sweet wines in 2014 are highly elegant, with aromas of honey, candied fruit and white flowers. The balance between sugar and acidity makes these wines particularly seductive.
