Château Haut-Bages Libéral

  • Bordeaux

Domain

The history of the Château Haut-Bages Libéral began in the 18th century with the Libéral family, founder of the estate. Over the years, the owners have managed to bring together the best terroirs of Pauillac, allowing them to obtain the rank of Cinquième Cru Classé en 1855. Since 1983, the Villars family has run the Château, more particularly Claire Villars Lurton. She has since undertaken a complete overhaul of the vinification tools and adopted a new environmental approach. Since 2009, the team has been experimenting with organic and biodynamic agriculture practices. The vineyard is composed of 30 hectares and overlooks the Gironde estuary in the heart of the Pauillac appellation. Half of the vineyard is adjacent to the Château Latour and benefits from gravelly soil. The other half is located on the Bages plateau. This exceptional terroir, allied with high quality human effort, results in powerful and full-bodied wines, with rich, black-fruit aromas.
