The Closel estate at Château des Vaults, with its rich history dating back to 1495, has been run by Evelyne de Pontbriand since 2001. The estate, which once belonged to the Las Cases family, is now run by a line of women winemakers. Evelyne, who is passionate about 'vins de lieu', has steered the estate towards biodynamic farming. The current team, including Simon and Elise, contributes to wine tourism, environmentally-friendly viticulture and wine promotion in France and abroad. The estate stands out for its Ecocert and Demeter-certified practices, which favour the terroir effect and the diversity of vintages. Collaborations with renowned researchers have fuelled innovation, while respecting the traditions rooted in the Anjou region. The Savennières appellation, a grand cru in the Loire Valley, is the cradle of rare wines, characterised by the Chenin grape variety, manual harvesting and very low yields.
