Maison Clusel-Roch

  • Vallée du Rhône

Domain

The history of the estate began in 1935 when Baptiste Clusel planted his first parcels of Syrah on the Clusel-Roch estate. At that time, Baptiste Clusel was a farmer and he made his wine only to sell it through the wine trade. His son René took over the estate in the 1950s, but like his father, he was not particularly interested in the vineyard. Like many farmers in the Ampuis region, the Clusels grew vegetables, fruit trees and Côte-Rôtie vines, which they sold in bottles. But at that time the reputation of Côte-Rôtie wines was not the same as today. The estate really experienced a renaissance in 1980 when Gilbert Clusel, the third generation, took over the estate after completing his studies. Gilbert is a true vineyard enthusiast and decides to restore the abandoned vines and to rent land to plant new vines. The turn to biodynamic viticulture was taken in 1984 and in 2009 the fourth generation, Guillaume Clusel, took over the management of the estate.
