Domaine du Monteillet’s story began in the 17th century with the de Villard family. Louis Hector, the Duke of Villard and Marshal under Louis XIV, is the most famous representative in the domain’s history. In 1741, a notarised deed shows that Michel, Stéphane Montez’s ancestor, bought a vineyard at Monteillet. The domain’s history continues generation after generation. Today, Stéphane Montez manages the domain, planting and making wines from 4 different appellations. The grapes are harvested manually and are sorted in the vineyard and in the cellar on a sorting table. For their red wines, they do long fermentations. Depending on the wine, some are left for 1 to 3 years to age in barrels. Fermentation for white and rosé wines can last up to 9 months, it is proof of patience and delicacy. Domaine de Monteillet’s wines are of great quality with powerful aromas. These beautiful wines deserve to be kept in the cellar for a few years to further develop and intensify their aromas.
