Bodegas Alvaro Palacios

  • Espagne

Domain

Alvaro Palacios had studied oenology in Bordeaux and gained experience while working in Jean-Pierre Moueix’s team at Château Pétrus. In 1989, he made the decision to establish his own domain. He settled in Gratallops in the small village of Priorat, about 60 km from Barcelona in Spain. This volcanic region created an immediate success for the domain. Alvaro follows in the footsteps of his father, Remondo Palacios, who made Rioja wines famous all around the world. The vineyard is located on steep hills, which means they cannot use any machines. The harvest is therefore done by hand. The use of mules and horses is also possible for work in the vineyard.  This talented winemaker was dubbed as “Spain’s most sensational winemaker” by Wine Spectator. Its wines are powerful and silky, highlighting the grape’s characteristics and revealing the pure expression of the region. Very intense bouquets with notes of black fruit, silky tannins, and well-balanced wines.
