Château Phélan Ségur

  • Bordeaux

Domain

The Château Phélan Ségur is located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation and extends up to the locality's small port. The Irishman Bernard Phelan established the Château, bringing together two previous vineyards, the Clos de Garramey and the Ségur de Cabanac estate. Contrary to the practices of the time, he installed the fermenting room and cellar in the heart of the residence. He thereby created the first Médoc-style property. The Gardinier family remained the owner of the Château for several decades. It is now the Belgian investor Philippe Van de Vyvere who heads up the estate. He is defined as a "purchaser respectful of the past" with "the willingness to continue the excellent work accomplished." The estate has 70 hectares of vines. These occupy soils composed of clayey gravel typical of the Médoc, on a limestone subsoil. The originality of the Château Phélan Ségur also resides in its cepage: 45% Merlot and 55% Cabernet-Sauvignon, which gives it real personality in the mouth. Remarkable balance, elegance and finesse perfectly describe Phélan Ségur wines. The best vintages can be kept for more than 10 years.
