Domaine Paul Jaboulet Ainé

  • Vallée du Rhône

Domain

Located in the most beautiful parcels of the northern Côtes du Rhône parcels (Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas, Saint-Péray, Saint-Joseph and Condrieu), the Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné has been founded in 1834 by Antoine Jaboulet. The Frey family, a wine-makers family from Champagne also owner of Château La Lagune in Bordeaux, took control of the estate in 2006. The Domaine was well-known in early 1990’s as the producer of the most mythical Syrah in the world, among which the wine La Chapelle coming from the blend of the old Syrah.   The Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné hides a stone quarry dating from the Antiquity and which was exploited from -121 before JC by the Romans. Located in Châteauneuf-sur-Isère, it extends on 17 hectares and was functioning until 1886. Those underground galleries were converted into a mushroom farm in the 1930’s and until 1992. The Domaine bought it to raise its wines in optimal conditions. The raising is today done in Tain l’Hermitage in a cellar working with gravity.
