The origins of the Domaine are located in Saint Romain in Côte d'Or, as the ancestor William Ponsot installed in Morey-Saint-Denis. He was visionary as the main plots were Clos des Monts-Luisants and Clos de la Roche, two plots with a unique quality. The descendants took then the head of the estate and extend the Clos de la Roche by purchasing the ¾ of the original plot. Hippolyte Ponsot left a trace in the estate history: he was the creator of the Burgundy vineyard classification in AOC and developed the reputation of the estate by exporting his bottles in United States. The estate will keep in expanding in the 1980’s to become one of the stars of the Côte de Nuit. Wines from the Clos de la Roche became mythical today. The estate is still managed by Ponsot family members that perpetuate the authenticity and excellence of the wines.
