The history of Calon, Troisième Grand Cru Classé in the classification of 1885, dates back to the Gallo-Roman period. The estate is one of the Médoc's oldest. Its name comes from the French term "Calones", which refers to the small transport vessels that sailed on the Gironde estuary. The 18th century was marked by the marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, also owner of Latour, Lafite and Mouton, who would give his name to the Château. Calon then became Calon Ségur. For more than a century, between 1894 and 2012, the Gasqueton family managed the property and maintained it with sobriety and elegance. Today the company Suravenir, a subsidiary of the group Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, is the owner of the Château Calon Ségur, as well as Capbern Gasqueton. Chaired by Jean-Pierre Denis, the group decided to undertake major renovations, in partnership with the Videlot group, while respecting the history of the estate. This Troisième Cru Classé in 1855 is a powerful and full-bodied Saint-Estèphe, which deserves to mature in a cellar for several years to discover a fabulous long-keeping wine.
